The Birthday Girl

We celebrated 10 special years with this girl today. We had chocolate doughnuts for breakfast, lunch at Epic with Dad (the picture was taken in Epic's tree house), her choice of a spaghetti dinner followed by gifts and marshmallow fudge bars. I can't think of a better way to spend this day than with my spunky, funny, ambitious, smart, loving girl.

I know I'm not supposed to like them, but having these little dots of yellow popping up all over the yard give me a little bit of happiness that dandelion season is here.

The work continues on the mosaics. The pots needs one more application of grout and they will be finished. We can't wait to fill them with lovely flowers.

Looking for Muskies

We have a little tradition when Nana and Grandpa visit for Enavi's birthday. We visit Lake Wingra to see if the muskies are jumping the dam to reach their spawning sites. We missed the muskies today, but it was still a nice day to be outside.

The kids began working on their mosaics in art class today. They spent a lot of time breaking up pieces of chipped plates and bowls into usable pieces for their mosaic designs. It was a beautiful, sunny day to work outside.

Collage Project

I thought it would be fun to create collages using clippings from magazines. The kids cut out images and words that they liked, inspired them, or that they thought described them in some way. We made a big, fat mess in the kitchen! There were scraps everywhere, but the creative process can be messy. :) It took some time, but the kids were happy with their finished projects.

Science Fair

With all of the sickness we've had this week, I wasn't sure that we would be able to participate in the science fair. Thankfully, everyone was better in time to finish projects, display and present at the science fair. Enavi was very nervous about presenting, but she did a fantastic job! It was so fun to see all of the great projects the kids created.

I went out, searching for something colorful to capture, and I found these yellow blossoms. I had fun trying out a new technique, which involved "shooting through" the foliage surrounding the buds. I like the hazy, dreamy quality it gives the photo.

I finished this shawl, made with a deliciously soft yarn. I love how the lacy scallops turned out along the bottom edge. I can't wait to wear it!

Bike Trail Bridge

A Mount Horeb landmark: the bike trail bridge. We have had the weirdest weather today: snow showers, sun, more snow, more sun. You can see the remnants of the snow in the shade of the trees. I'm hoping it is gone tomorrow! I am ready for more spring-like weather.
