Stargazing
Day 195/366
Weather conditions were favorable for us to view the comet Neowise for two nights in a row. Last night, the comet was much lower on the horizon and harder to see with the naked eye. We took several long-exposure pictures and were amazed at how clearly you could view the comet in the images. We decided to return to Brigham Park tonight and see if we could view it again, this time coming prepared with binoculars and more camera equipment. We arrived earlier and it took a little time, but we were able to view it again. The comet was much higher in the sky and the tail appeared longer. The first night, Enavi really struggled to see it (mostly because she wasn't wearing her glasses) but tonight she was able to see it clearly through the binoculars. Such a fun and exciting treat to see and share with our family, and the comet was just astounding. God's creation is truly amazing!

Good Friday
Day 101/366
Today we celebrated Good Friday, even if it wasn't quite the way we had planned. We watched our church service online and participated in communion, along with those watching the service. It was comforting to still hold some of our traditions, even though we're at home.
I had the idea for this picture a couple of months ago, long before Covid-19 and sheltering in place became our reality. One evening I was driving by the church in Mount Vernon and I noticed that the cross above the altar was lit at night and you could easily see it glowing through the doors. I tucked that away for a future picture, thinking that it would be interesting to take a picture of the cross through the glass doors. Fast forward to Holy week 2020 and I knew this picture would be the perfect documentation of worship during this time when we are unable to physically meet together as the body of believers. My faint reflection in the glass is a wonderful reminder of why we celebrate Easter! My sins have been redeemed through Christ's sacrifice.

Under the Moon
Day 96/366
We enjoyed our first bonfire of the year under a nearly full moon. It was the perfect cure for our cooped-up feelings, and roasting marshmallows never hurts, either.

Winter Storm
Day 17/365
The snow is coming down fast and furious, with some crazy wind gusts. We'll probably have around 6 more inches on the ground by the time the storm is done. I'm glad that we don't have to be anywhere, even if we still have to shovel.

New Year's Eve Fireworks
Day 365/365
We celebrated the New Year with a Harry Potter movie marathon, stromboli, and a dazzling fireworks display. We didn't hang around outside for very long - it was -14 degrees!
I'm feeling pretty happy with my year of pictures and I'm looking forward to more fantastic pictures in 2019. Happy New Year!

Moon Over Mt. Horeb
Day 295/365
As we drove home from a photo session this evening, we saw this bold, almost full moon rising over the farm on the edge of town. We had a little time before we needed to pick up Jevin, so we stopped to take a few pictures of the beautiful moonrise.

Catching Fireflies
Day 212/365
It was a perfect summer night and as we were driving home from VBS, we saw the fireflies dancing in the field. We stopped to run through the cool grass, attempting to capture a little magic in our hands.

A Prairie Sunset
Day 192/365
Another gorgeous evening with a fantastic sunset! We went out to dinner at Sugar River Pizza in New Glarus and the sun was setting as we drove home. We stopped several times to take pictures, and the sunset just got better and better.

The Stable at Dusk
Day 186/365
This is one of those picture that I've had in my head for some time and was finally able to make it happen. Several weeks ago, I noticed that the large steeple in the Stable at Epic is lit at night. After a very warm and sticky day, the evening turned cooler and it was actually pleasant to be outside. I asked Jevin if he wanted to head over to Epic with me to take some pictures, and he agreed, so we made it an adventure. We found a couple of cool things to shoot from our location on the soccer field before we were chased off by the mosquitoes! This was the picture that I wanted, and I love the little stars twinkling in the twilight.

20 Years
Day 178/365
We celebrated our anniversary with a drive to Cannon Beach on the Oregon coast. What an amazing and beautiful place! It was rainy and gloomy most of the day, but the sun came out not long after we arrived at the beach. I also pulled out the tripod and we had some fun taking pictures at sunset.

Full Moon
Day 60/365
The full moon was rising and I walked across the yard to take a few pictures. As I was setting up the camera and tripod, I heard coyotes howling at the moon, which made it even more beautiful.
