Making Cookies

Day 31/366
I was feeling a little better today and made some cookies to share at a family gathering. You can't go wrong with chocolate chip cookies!

Day to Rest

Day 30/366
Jevin, Enavi and I are all sick, which meant a day of rest. We binge watched the series Encore on Disney+, drank lots of water and moved very little. Davin came home from work and made us all chicken noodle soup, which made us all feel a bit better.

There wasn't much energy for picture taking, but even when you're sick, there's still dishes to wash. There's *always* dishes to wash!

Urgent Care

Day 29/365
We went to urgent care this afternoon to get Enavi checked out. This fever is persistent and she's still feeling very sick. The doctor ran a rapid strep culture, which came back negative. She probably has influenza - the one year we didn't get flu shots. Ugh. Now Jevin and I are starting to come down with the same thing. At least Davin got his flu shot, so he should be safe from the rest of us.

Another Sick Day

Day 28/365
Day 3 of fever, sore throat, cough and runny nose. You know she's really sick when she doesn't even feel like reading.

Breaking Boards

Day 27/365
Jevin earned a new belt tonight - his half-black belt (which he is wearing in the picture). I attended the class so that I could watch him receive his new belt, and stayed to watch him in his role as assistant instructor. The students practiced breaking boards and I love the look of determination on this girl's face! She was ready to give it her all and Jevin did a great job coaching her through it. The next belt is the big one and he is already working on achieving his black belt.

Mittens for Mom

Day 26/365
I made these mittens for my mom with yarn she dyed last summer at a class that Carrie, Enavi, my mom and I took at The Cat and Crow in Mt. Horeb. I hadn't made mittens before, and they were pretty quick and easy, but also very cozy. I gave them to Mom this afternoon and she loved them. I hope they keep her nice and toasty all winter long.

Birthday Do-Over

Day 25/365
Since I was sick on my birthday, I got a do-over birthday weekend! Today we celebrated with sushi and fondue. It was the first time the kids had fondue in a restaurant and it was a big hit. Tomorrow I get to celebrate with my mom and dad and Carrie. These guys sure know how to make a girl feel special.

Fancy Flowers

Day 24/365
I tried out a new technique in order to create the soft focus on the edges of the picture using a crystal prism held closely in front of the camera lens. It's always fun to try out new tricks!

15

Day 23/365
Well, he's 15 1/2 to be more accurate. A new hair cut and a sweet smile melts this mama's heart. Can't time slow down just a little bit?

Resting Spot

Day 22/365
We have a crew of squirrels that like to run and jump through the trees behind our house, and they will often chase each other, making their funny little barks and chirping sounds as they fly from branch to branch. I was looking out the window this morning, watching the frantic dash between trees and happened to spot this little guy just hanging out. He needed a little break from all of the action and found this comfy resting spot.

For the Love

Day 20/365
Nothing makes me happier than sharing my passions with my kids, especially when they initiate it! Enavi's Christmas cactus from Aunt Hazel finally bloomed and she asked if she could borrow my camera to take pictures of the lovely flower. It makes my heart full to see her enjoying something that is so special to me.

Celebrating a Day Late

Day 19/365
I got an unexpected birthday gift - a stomach bug! I wasn't really feeling up to doing much on my actual birthday, but we were able to celebrate a day late with gifts, cards, flowers and cake. Thanks to my crew for making me feel extra special for my special day.

Winter Storm

Day 17/365
The snow is coming down fast and furious, with some crazy wind gusts. We'll probably have around 6 more inches on the ground by the time the storm is done. I'm glad that we don't have to be anywhere, even if we still have to shovel.

Lacy Icicles

Day 16/365
The sunshine and frigid temperature made some lovely, lacy icicles.

Wednesday, January 15, 2020

Hitting the Slopes

Day 15/365
We spent the afternoon at Tyrol Basin and Jevin skied with some friends. It had been a couple of years since he'd been skiing, but it didn't take long for him to get the feel of it again. Enavi and I enjoyed hot chocolate in the chalet and watched the skiers and snowboarders enjoy the winter weather.

Making Muffins

Day 14/365
We did a bit of baking today and Jevin helped make pumpkin muffins.

Monday, January 13, 2020

Afternoon Tea

Day 13/365
A cup of tea always brightens a cold and dreary afternoon.

Sunday, January 12, 2020

The Reader

Day 12/365
Someone wasn't very excited about watching the Packer game, so she decided to snuggle up with a good book.

Saturday, January 11, 2020

Ice and Snow

Day 11/365
We had freezing rain mixed with snow which coated all of the trees in a thin layer of ice.

Friday, January 10, 2020

Cozy Winter

Day 10/365
The first knitting project of 2020 is ready to wear! This shawl is called Cozy Winter and I really like the way it turned out. It is, in fact, cozy and the combination of lace and cables made for a really fun pattern to knit.

Thursday, January 9, 2020

Preparing for Finals

Day 9/365
Lots of homework and reviewing to be done as Jevin prepares for finals.

Wednesday, January 8, 2020

Barn Window

Day 8/365
The last rays of the sun filtered through the old barn window, filling the room with warm winter light.

Tuesday, January 7, 2020

Guitar Practice

Day 7/365
Jevin spent some time choosing songs for worship on Sunday. He typically plays once a month at church, and this is his week to choose songs. I so enjoy hearing him play and it's an added bonus when Enavi and Davin sing along, like they did tonight.

Mondays are Hard

Day 6/365
Sometimes it's just hard to face Monday, even when the sun is streaming through the windows. There is a teenager burrowed under that pile of blankets, and I think we all felt this way this morning. It was a slow start to the first day back to work and school after a break (and a long weekend at a youth conference), but we made it.

Winter Golden Hour

Day 5/365
I always think of summertime when I think of the golden hour, but winter has some beautiful light, too.

Saturday, January 4, 2020

Snowy Trail

Day 4/365
I hiked a new trail at Donald Park today, and the dusting of snow made the path easy to see. It was chilly, but the golden sunlight made the trek worth it.

Friday, January 3, 2020

Packing up Christmas

Day 3/365
We put away the Christmas decorations and stored the tree for next year. We also lit the Advent candles one last time, letting the candles glow and allowing the memories of Christmas to linger just a little longer.

Thursday, January 2, 2020

Behind the Build

Day 2/365
I spent a little time watching Jevin prepare this week's video for The Sannes Bricks. I love seeing his ideas come to life!

Intersection

Day 1/365
Here we go again! Another year of pictures documenting our daily life and the beauty around us. I chose this picture for today because I liked the symbolism of the intersecting lines representing the intersection of the previous year with the new year. May your year be filled with blessings as we begin anew!
