Taming the Yard

Day 151/365
The guys worked hard to get the yard under control tonight. With Jevin working with the push mower and Davin on the riding mower, they were able to tackle the overgrown grass and dandelions.

Evening Swim

Day 146/365
The weather was perfect for playing in the lake today. The water was cool, but it was such a warm day that it felt refreshing. We enjoyed dinner and praise and worship time at Tali and Jason's and returned to the lake for an evening swim. While Davin took several of the kids out on the boat, Enavi and Tevia did some swimming and relaxed on the Maui mat.

After the Rain

Day 145/365
We drove through a couple of rain showers on our way to Minnesota, but after the rain cleared we were left with a gorgeous sunset, and even a double rainbow. The sky was so picture-worthy, we needed to stop to take a few pictures.

National Mississippi River Museum

Day 144/365
We had a fun trip to the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium in Dubuque with some friends. There were lots of exhibits and wildlife to see and several interactive, hands-on activities. The kids especially enjoyed seeing the otter, paddlefish, turtles, touching the sting rays and playing in the Riverworks Splash Zone.

Walk Around the Yard with Dad

Day 138/365
It was a lovely evening for a walk around the yard after dinner. The kids enjoyed ambling with Dad and discovering all of the blooming flowers, shrubs and trees. The rhubarb plants are growing like crazy and have even put out seed stalks already.

Bikes at the Farm

Day 137/365
Our van has been in the shop for the last couple of days, so I've been running Davin to and from work. Epic provides these bikes for the employees to get around campus and they get a lot of use. During the day, the bikes are in use all over campus, but at the end of the day they tend to congregate in certain places. Today, I was impressed at the number of bikes outside of Davin's office at the Farm Campus.

Playing with Pepper

Day 136/365
Enavi loves playing with Salt and Pepper. They like to perch on her shoulder, sit on her head, and she has trained them to climb out of their cage onto her hands. Today we let Pepper explore in her room a bit and her favorite part was climbing from the trunk onto the window sill.

Mother's Day Flowers

Day 133/365
I enjoyed a special Mother's Day with lovely cards, gifts, flowers, lunch with my mom, and a stop at the UW Arboretum to see all of the different trees in bloom. I am blessed beyond measure with a loving mom, mother-in-law, husband and kiddos. Happy Mother's Day!

Bonus picture: the kids with me at the arboretum. The trees were so beautiful and there were so many varieties in bloom including magnolias, crab apples, redbuds, and lilacs. These redbud trees (behind us in the picture) are special because they always remind me of our trip to Australia where they were in full bloom everywhere we went.

Bowling Showdown

Day 132/365
The kids treated me to some early Mother's Day fun. We went out for breakfast and enjoyed a couple of rounds of bowling. It's always nice to let Mom win on her special day.

Timothy Award

Day 129/365
Tonight we attended the Awana awards ceremony at our church and celebrated Enavi's achievement of earning her Timothy Award. Just in case you were wondering, in order to earn the Timothy Award, a child has to complete every Awana book from Kindergarten through 6th grade, memorizing over 550 Bible verses! I'm so proud of Enavi and her hard work.

Rhubarb Crisp

Day 128/365
Our rhubarb plants are looking healthy and strong. I was excited to make our first rhubarb dessert of the season - rhubarb crisp. We all enjoyed it, and the kids literally licked their plates clean.

Cherry Blossoms

Day 127/365
If the number of blossoms are any indication, we should have a bumper crop of cherries this year.

Standing Tall

Day 126/365
This is one of my favorite oak trees. It stands alone in the middle of a field and there's something about it that draws my eye every time I drive by it. Today I noticed the splash of gold in the sea of green alfalfa and I was struck by the vibrant color.

REACH Recital

Day 124/365
We enjoyed the kids' spring recital this evening. During one of the songs, Jevin played guitar and Enavi played the triangle. You can see in the picture that there was a wonderful variety of instruments. After the recital, we enjoyed seeing the artwork they created throughout the semester. We also got to see Nana Sue, Grandpa Ken, and Aunt Carrie and share in a belated celebration of Carrie's birthday.

Spring Flowers at Donald Rock

Day 123/365
I spotted these white flowers covering the ground at the base of Donald Rock. I had just enough time in between rain showers to snap a few pictures. After a quick a Google search, I learned that they are called Dutchman's breeches. The white of the blooms really pops against the rocky terrain.

Water Play

Day 121/365
We had a few rain showers this afternoon and the kids decided to run around in the rain. The rain stopped too soon, so they got out the hose and had a lot of fun playing in the water. I loved hearing the laughter and squeals as they ran through the spray from the hose.
