Day 244/366
It looks like Nature is trying to tell us that autumn is on the way.
Another beautiful evening, another after-dinner stroll in Donald Park. The pond was particularly lovely this evening, reflecting the dusk-colored clouds in the sky as the mist began to rise from the surface of the water.
Our friends taught us how to play Crossnet while visiting them this past week. It's a fun combination of four square and volleyball. Once the rain cleared out, we had some great weather to play outside.
Because I never get tired of yellow flowers and the glow of summer is beginning to fade into the promise of autumn.
Farming has different seasons, and right now we are in the season of waiting. These soybeans are getting close to harvest, but they're not quite ready. There's more waiting needed, and patience is required until the time is right.
This feels like a season of waiting for us as well. Waiting for things to feel safe, waiting for our lives to go back to normal, waiting for a vaccine, waiting to do lots of fun and frivolous things that we just can't do right now. It's hard to have patience in the waiting, trusting that the Lord is at work in the big and little things even when we can't see Him. I keep telling myself to take this season one day at a time, tackling what's in front of me for this day, seeking encouragement from His Word, persistently praying, trusting in the Lord's perfect timing. So I guess this is a season of waiting... but also a season of growing.
Enavi made these delicious cupcakes today and even piped the buttercream frosting for an extra fancy presentation.
The last few evenings have been just beautiful! Lots of golden light and perfect temperatures. This is my kind of summer weather.
We found this little guy on an evening walk. Enavi decided his name should be Bob. He hung out with us for a bit and then Enavi put him back where she found him. I love it that she still likes to catch frogs and marvel at nature.
We visited Larson's Pond in Donald Park for an after-dinner stroll. It was a lovely summer evening and we watched the little fish jump out of the water and the birds swooped over the surface, catching their dinner.
Sometimes I find beauty in surprising places. This flower is definitely past its prime, but there is something lovely about its brokenness.
My first attempt at a technique called "freelensing." Basically, you removed the lens from the front of the camera, hold it in place while shifting the lens and adjusting the focus manually until you find an image you like. It was a bit of a challenge, but fun to try a new skill. I love that I captured that little spider web!
Today we visited Governor Dodge State Park and did some hiking. One of our favorite spots is Stephens Falls, so we spent some time hiking in that area of the park. Enavi decided to take her shoes off and wade in the water.
This is one of my favorite families to photograph! So thankful I get to see them every year, see their smiles, hear the kids laugh, watch them grow. This year we got lucky with an incredible sunset at the end of our time together.
These tomatoes will be coming to my kitchen table very soon. We picked one the other night and it was delicious!
We are heading home today and I snuck in a quick picture before hitting the road. It's always hard to leave, but we are looking forward to getting home, unpacking and sleeping in our own beds.
Jason took us on a ride around camp this evening. We rode in the truck on different trails, got to see the horses in their pasture, took a short tour of the new maintenance shed, and saw the waterfront where the campers swim. It was a fun, behind-the-scenes safari with our tour guide. I had to grab one last picture of these cousins together.
It was such a treat to take Jana's senior pictures today. First we dodged the rain and then we dodged the bright sunshine, but Jana did such a great job. I think she'll have lots of beautiful pictures to choose from, but this was one of my favorites.
We made a trip to the Trowbridge Creek Zoo today and fell in love with the miniature goats and the little donkey.
