Day 274/366
Stalks of purple grass waving in the brisk, autumn wind.
This yellow flower is so summery, but the colors of the leaves behind it tell a different story.
The afternoon was filled with rain showers which left behind some lovely water droplets on the clover.
We've been planning this special outing for a couple of months and today was the day to take advantage of the later sunrise and summer-like temps. We got up early, grabbed our flashlights and camera gear and drove to Donald Park. We hiked up to the top of the Mount Vernon Overlook and arrive about 30 minutes before sunrise. Then we sat back and enjoyed the show. It was fairly cloudy near the horizon, so I was worried that we wouldn't see the sun as it came over the horizon, but we weren't disappointed. We saw the sun as it rose, a deep, glowing red, and then it disappeared again behind another bank of clouds. It was a beautiful display and a memorable adventure for all of us.
Day 268/366
We spent a fun morning at Sutter's Ridge picking apples, choosing gourds and pumpkins and eating cider donuts. I'll be honest... the donuts were my favorite part.
I love the way the water droplets catch the light and give these petals a little sparkle.
Only 100 days to go in 2020. It's felt like a long haul, both with this project and life in general. I feel like this is big milestone!
He did it! Jevin is officially a newly licensed driver. He even went for his first solo drive with his sister today.
This week Jevin resumed one of his regular activities that's been on hold since March. The martial arts classes that he assists with resumed at a local park. It looks a little different: face masks, face shields for instructors, socially distanced mats for the class particpants, individual equipment for each student, lots of sanitizer. Even with all of the Covid-related precautions, it feels good to get back to some of our "normal" activities.
Sometimes you just need beautiful light to make something ordinary into something extraordinary.
I was surprised to find these sweet little plants blooming along our road. I'm sure they are some type of weed, but the vibrant color makes for a scenic view on my walk.
Tonight we got to photograph one of my favorite girls and her new puppy, Ashlee. It was such a treat to see Jordyn and play with this sweet pup!
These little purple flowers look like they are glowing from the inside in the early morning light.
The fading petals of the this flower stand in stark contrast to a picture I took of this same variety earlier in the summer. There's something about the imperfections in the colors and the worn, frayed petals that make this flower just as lovely as summer's bloom.
The original picture can be seen here:
This head of seeds are the remains of some type of tall, large stalk growing in the prairie. I'm not sure what plant this is, but I loved the details in the little seeds.
The grayish-white berries on the gray dogwood are so striking against the surrounding greens and reds on a hike through the park.
No real story behind this picture... I just thought the late afternoon light was really beautiful, falling through the window and disrupting the gathering shadows.
I love this time of year, when the road sides and wild areas are filled with different varieties of yellow wildflowers. It makes for a very cheery drive!
